ESADE Alumni is pleased to invite you to this Refresher Programme talk, “The great impact of Artificial Intelligence: facts, challenges and risks”, by Núria Agell, head of ESADE’s Department of Operations, Innovation and Data Sciences.

A.I. and humans are already inseparable. A.I. is no longer science fiction. A.I. is part of our mobile phones and computers, but also part of our cities, buildings, companies, ... Autonomous systems such as robots are active in real-life settings such as production chains, and can even be found in hospitals helping surgeons carry out operations. During this talk, professor Núria Agell will provide an overview of today’s world and the challenges of artificial intelligence in terms of future applications, and the implications for people and society.

 

Núria Agell

Núria Agell is a professor and the head of ESADE’s Department of Operations, Innovation and Data Science. Degree in Mathematics (Universidad de Barcelona) and PhD in Applied Mathematics (Universidad Politécnica de Catalunya). Main areas of research: machine learning, fuzzy reasoning, multi-criteria decisions and consensus models.

President of ACIA (the Catalan association of A.I.) from 2006 to 2010. Has published more than 40 papers in international scientific journals, and given more than 70 talks at international conferences. Guest editor of three special issues of the journals Applied Soft Computing, Applied Artificial Intelligence and Pattern Recognition Letters. Reviewer of many international conferences and more than ten leading A.I. journals. Currently a member of the editorial board of the scientific journal Information Fusion. Member of the research evaluation panels of the Spanish agencies ANEP and ANECA. Professor Agell has directed 10 doctoral theses all related to A.I. or multi-attribute decision taking.
